Advancing Internal Promotions: Assistant Building Services Supervisor Project
Montgomery College’s Assistant Building Services Supervisor (ABSS) project is transforming the way building services teams are supported and developed. Launched to reduce the large span of control in some areas, and to provide enhanced employee support and development, the ABSS role now provides direct oversight for smaller teams and aims to improve operational support and employee relations.
The project’s recruitment process prioritized internal mobility, with 92% of ABSS positions filled by internal promotions, and included a rigorous and competitive selection process. The process provided transparent feedback and developmental resources to all applicants, reinforcing the college’s commitment to career growth.
Overall, the feedback regarding the ABSS initiative has been positive while creating new career pathways, resulting in a more effective and supportive work environment for Montgomery College’s Building Services staff.
