February is Black History Month
February is Black History Month, a time to recognize and honor the achievements, contributions, and lived experiences of Black Americans. It is an opportunity to reflect on history, celebrate culture, and deepen understanding of the individuals and communities who have shaped our society.
Montgomery College Libraries support this observance through a curated Black History Month resource guide featuring books, articles, videos, and digital resources that highlight key moments, voices, and themes in Black history.
Employees are encouraged to explore these resources, engage in learning opportunities, and reflect on how we can continue to foster equity, inclusion, and belonging across our community.

Employee Spotlight: Matthew Banh, IT Support Specialist
Meet Matthew Banh, Information Technology Support Specialist at the Takoma Park/Silver Spring Campus since 2024. Matthew’s connection to Montgomery College began earlier as a summer student. Impressed by the supportive campus culture, he knew MC was where he wanted to build his career.
In his role, Matthew serves as a bridge between people and technology. From troubleshooting complex system issues and deploying new hardware to resolving last-minute tech challenges before presentations, he finds purpose in turning frustration into productivity.
By leveraging the College's Education Assistance Program (EAP), Matthew is pursuing a master’s degree in information systems at UMBC, building on his bachelor’s degree, which he earned cum laude. He balances full-time work with graduate studies while developing skills aligned with his long-term goal of backend development.
Outside of work, Matthew enjoys hiking, cooking, reading, and learning Spanish. He values the diverse perspectives across campus and is proud to support students and employees, one solution at a time.
