Montgomery College has partnered with Slingshot to provide course materials, art and school supplies, MC spirit gear, apparel, gifts, technology, Apple products, gift cards, Commencement regalia, and other services.

Slingshot Choice - MC’s New Course Materials Program

Beginning Spring 2026, Montgomery College will provide all instructor-required course materials, such as textbooks, art supplies, and lab supplies, through a new automated delivery program called Slingshot Choice. Our campus store partner, Slingshot, ensures every student receives their required materials by the first day of class. Students are automatically enrolled but maintain complete control over their participation and format preferences.

How does Slingshot Choice work?

  • Automatic Enrollment: All students will be enrolled in Slingshot’s Choice Model with the default preference set to digital books. No need to place an order.
  • Automatic Delivery: All required course materials are delivered to you before courses begin.
  • Simplified Billing: Charges for course materials will be billed directly to your student account and can be covered by financial aid book vouchers if applicable.
  • Total Flexibility: You can change your participation status, course materials format and delivery preferences via the Slingshot student portalnew window.
  • Choose to Shop on Your Own – Opt Out: If you prefer not to participate, you can easily opt out. This means you will be responsible for finding and purchasing all your course materials. Important Dates

  • October 27, 2025: Slingshot Student portal opens for review and preference changes.
  • January 9, 2026: Deadline to make changes or opt out.
  • January 26, 2026: First day of the Spring semester.
  • February 2, 2026: Last day for 100% refund on returns for any reason*. 

*For courses dropped before the drop deadline date, students can receive a 100% refund on returns within 7 days of the drop date.

Slingshot Choice and Program Preferences

Yes! Beginning Spring 2026, all MC students are automatically enrolled and opted in to Slingshot Choice. This program ensures students’ required course materials are ready for pickup at the MC Campus Store or available through the Slingshot Student Portalnew window before classes start. Digital rentals are the default format; students can choose new or used materials too.

Yes! If you prefer to get your course materials on your own, you can opt out via the Slingshot Student Portalnew window. The deadline to opt out for the 2026 Spring Semester is January 9, 2026! No! You remain enrolled for future semesters unless you decide to opt out and not participate in the program. You must log in to the Slingshot Student Portal to officially opt out. You remain “opted out” until you manually “opt in” again, a decision you can easily make at any time. Please refer to these steps for opting out: How do I opt out? If you opt out before the drop deadline date, you’ll receive a full refund for any materials you haven’t picked up. If you’ve already picked up your materials, you can return them within 7 days of the class start date for a full refund. Please note that some restrictions may apply to digital materials.

To login to the Slingshot Student Portal:

  1. Visit montgomerycollege.slingshotedu.comnew window.
  2. Select “Login” and then select “Login with School Account”.
  3. MyMC webpage will appear prompting you to login with your MyMC ID and Password.

For course materials, you can select New, Used, or Digital as your preference in the Slingshot Student Portal. This preference applies to all materials unless your instructor  requires a specific format. If your preferred format is unavailable, Slingshot will automatically provide a substitute. Update your preferences any time in "My Account."

Yes. Even if you register late, you will still be enrolled in Slingshot Choice. The campus store will process your order as quickly as possible; however, please note that there may be delays depending on your registration date and the materials required for your courses. You will get an email when your materials are ready for pickup or shipped to your home address (if you selected the “Mail” option as your preference).

Once you receive an email from Slingshot confirming that your order was processed, you can view the order status and tracking number (if applicable) by logging into the Slingshot student portalnew window and navigating to the “My Transactions” page.

  • Print materials default to pickup at the MC Campus Store (Rockville Campus, Campus Center Building). You’ll receive an email when your items are ready.
  • Digital materials become available through your student portal about four days before classes start
  • Pickup at the Germantown, Takoma Park/Silver Spring, or East County Education Center (ECEC) locations during distribution hours.  To transfer orders to a location other than Rockville, fill out the transfer request form.
  • For a fee ($6.99), you can choose home shipping.
You can access eBooks and other digital course materials through the Slingshot student portal under “My Course Materials”. Once a digital item is available, an email notification will be sent (it may come after a physical shipment has gone out). Billing and Financial Aid

Charges will be automatically posted to your student account and can be paid using financial aid book vouchers if you are eligible. Visit the Student Account FAQnew window for more information about charges and payments.

Yes. You can use your financial aid book credit to purchase supplies, technology, apparel, and other approved products at the Rockville campus store. Some items will also be available at the Germantown and Takoma Park/Silver Spring distribution hubs when operational. See the MC Campus store website for hours of operation.

You can check your eligibility for financial aid book credit in MyMCnew window before the start of the semester. Book credit can be used at the MC Campus Store and is available at the beginning of the semester. For more information, please visit the Financial Aid FAQs and Deadlinesnew window.

Course Changes and Return Policy

If you add a course, Slingshot automatically processes your materials and notifies you when they are ready for pickup.

If you drop a course within the add/drop period, return materials within 7 days of the drop date for a full refund. Digital materials are returned automatically.

Return any materials within 7 days of the class start date for a full refund, no questions asked. If you drop a course, you have 7 days from the drop date to return materials. Some restrictions apply to digital materials

Print materials can be returned at the MC Campus Store in Rockville as well as the distribution hubs at Germantown and Takoma Park/Silver Spring. At this time, students are not able to return materials to the ECEC location.

Cash refunds are only available at the MC Campus Store at the Rockville campus.

Digital items fall outside normal return and refund policies, as publishers have different policies on digital. Digital items are refundable within 14 days of the first day of access, or thirty (30) days after the purchase is made, whichever occurs first. Additionally, the campus store (Slingshot) cannot fulfill refund requests if more than 10% of the product has been viewed and/or if any page(s) of the product has been printed. Slingshot recommends contacting Customer Support (slingshotedu.com/support) as soon as possible if you think you will need to return a digital item.

Students Who Opt Out of Slingshot Choice

Yes! You can order books through Slingshot just like any online retailer. Please note that availability is not guaranteed. Orders can be placed onlinenew window or in-person at the MC Campus Store on the Rockville campus. Financial aid book credit can be used in-store if eligible.

Orders can be shipped to your home address for a fee (starting at $6.99), picked up at the Rockville Campus Store, or at Takoma Park/Silver Spring (TP/SS), Germantown (GT), and East County Educational Center (ECEC) during hours of distribution.

To transfer orders to a location other than Rockville, fill out the transfer request formnew window. Continue to check this page for the latest updates on store and hub operations.

Once you have placed an order through the website, you can view the order status and tracking number (if applicable) by logging into the Slingshot student portalnew window and navigating to the “My Transactions” page.

The amount of time it takes to get your books depends on the shipping speed you choose and availability of product. Generally, orders are processed within 4-7 business days after you place them, and in stock items will ship or be available to pick up within 1 business day. Please note that many of the course materials have digital options that provide you with instant access. When choosing the book condition preference, select “Digital Access” for digital titles.

Online orders can be cancelled or returned within 7 days of purchase without penalty. If you drop a class, return materials within 7 days of the drop date with proof. Materials must be returned in original condition. Some digital restrictions apply – please see What if I need to return a digital question.

Other Questions

No change at this time. You continue to find and purchase your own course materials. Slingshot Choice takes effect Spring 2026.

Non-required supplies can be purchased in the following ways:

  • Onlinenew window with a credit card
  • In-person with a credit card or financial aid funds
  • At the hubs (a selection of supplies will be available for purchase) with a credit card or financial aid funds
