Montgomery College (MC) invites applications and nominations for the position of vice
president for development and alumni relations and executive director of the Montgomery
College Foundation.
This integrated leadership role is responsible for advancing the College’s philanthropic priorities and strengthening engagement with alumni, donors, and community partners. Reporting to the senior vice president for advancement and community engagement, the vice president provides strategic leadership for development and alumni relations and serves as executive director of the Montgomery College Foundation, a separate 501(c)(3) organization.
The vice president leads a team of 20 professionals and partners closely with the Foundation's Board of Directors and College leadership to support student success and advance the College's strategic priorities.

Montgomery College, chartered in 1946, has proudly served the community for nearly 80 years and earned national recognition for excellence. Located in Montgomery County, Maryland, a vibrant, diverse, and economically strong community of more than one million residents, the College is just outside Washington, D.C., and approximately 30 miles south of Baltimore.

Governed by a 10-member Board of Trustees appointed by the governor of Maryland, Montgomery College serves more than 45,000 credit and noncredit students each year. The College's locations include three (3) campuses in Germantown, Rockville, and Takoma Park/Silver Spring, as well as a college-wide Workforce Development and Continuing Education unit with centers in Gaithersburg and Wheaton, the East County Education Center, a central administrative services center, community engagement sites, and additional off-campus locations.
Position Responsibilities
MC Foundation Leadership
- Serve as the primary liaison to the Montgomery College Foundation Board of Directors
- Support board governance, engagement, and strategic planning
- Lead annual and long-term fundraising efforts, including campaign initiatives
- Ensure alignment between Foundation priorities and College goals
College Leadership
- Provide leadership for development, alumni relations, and donor engagement functions
- Establish and implement fundraising goals and strategies
- Collaborate with College leadership to advance strategic priorities
- Engage senior leaders in major and principal gift cultivation and solicitation
Financial and Operational Oversight
- Oversee Foundation finances, budgeting, and stewardship practices
- Ensure compliance with applicable regulations and policies
- Guide advancement services, including donor systems and prospect research
- Oversee development-related communications, events, and reporting
Alumni Relations
- Strengthen alumni engagement through programs, events, and communications
- Support the Alumni Association and its leadership
- Increase alumni participation in giving and volunteerism
- Align alumni engagement with broader advancement goals
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in a related field (master’s degree preferred)
- At least 10 years of progressively responsible experience in development, fundraising, or advancement leadership
- Demonstrated success in major and principal gift fundraising and campaign leadership
- Experience working with boards and external stakeholders
- Proven ability to build and sustain relationships with donors, community leaders, and institutional partners
- Strong leadership, communication, and strategic planning skills
- Knowledge of nonprofit and foundation operations and governance
