National Search: Associate Senior Vice President for Operational Effectiveness and Strategic Initiatives

Montgomery College (Maryland) invites inquiries, applications, and nominations for the position of the Associate Senior Vice President for Operational Effectiveness and Strategic Initiatives (ASVP-OESI).

Reporting to the Senior Vice President of Academic Affairs/College Provost (SVPAA/CP), the ASVP-OESI provides Academic Affairs oversight of all campus and center locations, and supervises three (3) Campus Deans, the East County Education Center Director, and office staff. This leader plays a pivotal role in supporting the Office of Academic Affairs as a key advisor, collaborator, and facilitator, working closely with senior leadership, academic deans, faculty, and staff to advance the transformational aspirations, mission, vision, and goals of Montgomery College. The ASVP-OESI leads initiatives, manages special projects, and ensures effective communication and coordination to promote excellence in teaching, learning, and student success across the College.

The Position

The Associate Senior Vice President for Operational Effectiveness and Strategic Initiatives (ASVP-OESI) collaborates within a one-college academic affairs leadership team. Engaging with diverse stakeholders, including state officials, community organizations, and faculty, they facilitate information exchange to enhance academic affairs.

The Associate Senior Vice President for Operational Effectiveness and Strategic Initiatives (ASVP-OESI) manages critical institutional matters and promotes promising practices across units. Serving as the liaison between the SVPAA/CP and college entities, they foster positive community relationships and ensure operational alignment with the College's mission and values.

The responsibilities and duties of the Associate Senior Vice President for Operational Effectiveness and Strategic Initiatives position include:

  • Oversees the development, implementation, and alignment of strategic initiatives, goals, action plans, and processes across Academic Affairs to drive institutional excellence, accountability, standardization, and student success while leading assigned projects, coordinating resources, and ensuring timely execution.

  • Acts as the representative of the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs/College Provost (SVPAA/CP) in various settings, effectively conveying divisional priorities, perspectives, and decisions, facilitating communication across leadership levels, and serving as a liaison to promote cross-functional collaboration.

  • Contributes to long-term strategic planning by assisting in formulating plans, policies, and initiatives to promote institutional excellence and student success, collaborating with leadership to achieve goals, monitoring progress, identifying challenges, proposing solutions, and implementing methods to facilitate credit/non-credit pathways with comprehensive credential tracking.

  • Provides executive support to the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs/College Provost (SVPAA/CP) by offering advisory insights, recommendations, and feedback, coordinating communication across Academic Affairs leadership, faculty, staff, and stakeholders, and analyzing resources/documentation to ensure strategic alignment.

  • Oversees policy development and compliance within Academic Affairs by staying informed on relevant higher education policies, regulations and legislation, assisting in developing and reviewing divisional policies/procedures to ensure organizational alignment, and monitoring legal/regulatory changes to advise the Senior Vice President accordingly.

  • Demonstrates strong project management skills by leading and overseeing key Academic Affairs initiatives, identifying and prioritizing critical projects, allocating resources effectively, tracking progress against goals and deadlines, while fostering a collaborative culture of teamwork and cross-functional problem-solving across departments.

  • Collaborates with the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs/College Provost (SVPAA/CP) to develop and implement crisis management plans and protocols that ensure academic continuity, provide leadership and effective communication during emergencies for timely decision-making, and identify and mitigate institutional risks through appropriate policies, procedures, and controls.


Qualifications

  • Doctorate or terminal degree in a related discipline/field; Ph.D. or Ed.D. preferred.

  • At least seven (7) years of progressively responsible managerial/leadership experience in academic programs and/or services, such as chair, coordinator, dean, director, or equivalent.

  • At least five (5) years of full-time teaching experience at the post-secondary level, with preference for teaching in a community college setting.
