The Montgomery College Academic Program Review process includes a review of all the academic areas with a primary focus on program (degree programs and certificates). Program review is a comprehensive self –evaluative process that includes participation from faculty, staff, students, and administrators. The review examines the curriculum, teaching methodologies, assessment activities, articulation agreements, advisory committee, and the strengths and opportunities of each program. Programs receive data regarding program enrollments and awards, transfer summaries, discipline cost, industry projections, and other key measures. During this process, programs conduct benchmarking analysis and solicit input from an external peer review. At the conclusion of the review, recommendations for academic improvements are approved and implemented within a five year review cycle.

All academic areas special programs, and support centers are reviewed according to a schedule approved by the Senior Vice President for Academic Affairs. Programs that are accredited or approved by external agencies are reviewed on a cycle that mirrors their accreditation or approval schedule. The review process is systematic, comprehensive, and operates on a five year review cycle. Yearly status updates of pending recommendations are required. The process is periodically reviewed and modified based on suggestions from focus groups and surveys of those involved in the reviews.

Program review is used to enhance the quality of an academic program and provide information for institutional decision making and improvements. Program review helps inform the teaching and learning process for our students and our institution, helps to assess if we are meeting our goals and initiatives, and aids in meeting our accreditation standards. Without appropriate accreditation, students cannot receive federal financial aid.
