Department Chair and Full-time Faculty Transition Guidance
The following is contract and pay guidance for department chairs and full-time faculty.
If a chair’s appointment is not renewed for a new term:

They will return to faculty and bargaining unit (AAUP) status on Friday, July 1, 2022
-
Their last day of chair compensation will be Thursday, June 30, 2022
-
They must use any annual leave balance by June 30, 2022. (Manual extensions to the end of the pay period are not available in Workday)

Their salary will be restored to the previous 10-month faculty base salary plus any faculty salary adjustments and rank advancements that would have been attained during the term as department chair.

A Deferred Payment Acknowledgement form is required to enroll or re-enroll in deferred pay for the next academic year. Please e-mail Payroll Services to receive a form.

If determined eligible, advanced degree awards will be applied to the new (returning) faculty salary in accordance with the process outlined in Article 8, Section 8.2(C) on page 31 of the AAUP Collective Bargaining Agreement for Full-time Faculty. (PDF,

If a current chair is renewing for a new term:

They will receive a new 4-year appointment agreement from HRSTM for the term of July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2026.

They must use any annual leave balance by June 30, 2022. (Manual extensions to the end of the pay period are not available in Workday)

Their FY23 annual leave allowance will be credited on July 1, 2022.

They are expected to participate in the Department Chairs retreat scheduled for July 12 & 13, 2022. More information from Dr. Rai is forthcoming.

Their current FY22 department chair salary will “roll over” and serve as the chair base salary in FY23.

Those assuming a third term will be in their final term and will not be eligible to serve a fourth term.

Contingent upon Board of Trustees’ approval, the department chair salary for FY 23 will include the administrator, department chair, and staff increase (projected to be 3.5%).

If determined eligible, advanced degree awards will be applied to re-calculating the full- time faculty base salary on which the chair’s compensation was initially determined and in accordance with the process outlined in Article 8, Section 8.2(C) on page 31 of the AAUP Collective Bargaining Agreement for Full-time Faculty (PDF,

This adjustment is applied in the next FY after eligibility has been confirmed.
If a current chair is in the middle of a term:

They will not receive a new 4-year appointment agreement as they have an existing agreement in place. Any salary changes will be entered in Workday and a system notification will be sent through Workday.

They must use any annual leave balance by June 30, 2022. (Manual extensions to the end of the pay period are not available in Workday).

Their FY23 annual leave allowance will be credited on July 1, 2022.

They are expected to participate in the Department Chairs retreat scheduled for July 12 & 13, 2022. More information from Dr. Rai is forthcoming.

They will receive a 4-year appointment agreement from HRSTM for the term of July 1, 2022 to June 30, 2026

They will receive an FY 23 annual leave allowance to be credited on July 1, 2022.

The department chair salary will be calculated based on the current FY22 (June 30, 2022) 10-month faculty salary.
