Outstanding Service Award for Staff

Employees are eligible for a $2000 outstanding service award for performing their duties and responsibilities of the assigned position in a sustained, outstanding manner.

The $2,000 award may be granted to an employee whose work is exemplary or for work that is continuously well above expectations.

A staff member may be considered for the award no more than once every three years.

Nominate an Employee

There are two types of nominations:

  • an employee that consistently exceeded expectations in the MAJORITY of their primary work responsibilities over the last three (3) years. Nominate an employee. (PDF, Download Acrobat Reader) 
  • an employee that made an exceptional one time contribution to the College. Nominate an employee (PDF, Download Acrobat Reader) 

Nominations packets must include:

  • A completed nomination form with appropriate attachments (as described on the form).
  • All applicable signatures and dates.
  • Supporting documentation from others concurring with the recommendation.

If you are nominating someone from another department or area, the form should be submitted through the employee's immediate supervisor.

Please submit the completed recommendation to Recognition Awards 
Please do not send nominations to HRSTM staff. 

The Process
  1. Nomination form is submitted via email to recognitionawards@montgomerycollege.edu or by inter-office mail to the attention of: HRSTM Awards
  2. A peer review committee convenes and forwards its recommendation to the Chief Human Resources officer or his designee for consideration.
  3. The Chief Human Resources Officer will review the committee's recommendation and either approve the recommendation or send a disapproval response to the recommendee with an indication of the reasons for not supporting the recommendation.
  4. Upon approval, the Office of HRSTM will notify the employee when the award has been processed for payment.  The employee will receive the award amount of $2,000, less taxes, in the next available paycheck.
Timeline

Submission Period:  The awards may be presented at any time during the fiscal year.

Processing Deadline:  All nominations received by the first of the month will be reviewed and processed within that month.  Any nominations received after the first of the month will be reviewed the following month.

Award:  Awards are paid as taxable earnings through the payroll system.  Awards under this program are not added to base pay and will be paid as a lump sum.

 

 

 

 

Special Recognition Award for Staff

Employees are eligible for a $400.00 recognition award for demonstrating extraordinary initiative in performing a specific work related task or providing outstanding service to others at a particular time or event.

Anyone may recommend a staff member for this $400 reward.  Staff members may be eligible for the award only once every fiscal year.  Nominations can be made by the supervisor or a peer.

  • The written recommendation together with appropriate attachments.
  • All applicable signatures and dates
  • Supporting documentation from others concurring with the recommendation.

The Process
  1. Each request will be reviewed and eligibility confirmed by the Office of Human Resources and Strategic Talent Management (HRSTM).
  2. Upon approval, the Office of HRSTM will forward a recognition certificate to the nominated employee.
  3. The employee will receive the $400 recognition award, less taxes, in the next available paycheck.

Staff Distinguished Service Award

The Staff Distinguished Service Award is a cash award presented yearly to a deserving staff employee as determined by their peers.

This is the award presented at Staff Enrichment Day.  Because it is not run by Human Resources, detailed information is available on the  Staff Distinguished Service Award web page. 
Staff Member of the Year

Any active full-time or part-time associate or support staff member (exempt, non-exempt, bargaining, non-bargaining) in good standing, who has been employed by the College for three consecutive years or more is eligible for a $5,000 award.

This award recognizes one who consistently exemplifies and sustains excellence and exceptional performance, leadership, and service that broadly impacted the college wide community. All Montgomery College employees may nominate an eligible Montgomery College peer/colleague for a staff of the year award.

Nominate a Staff Member

The nomination packet must include:

  1. Nomination Cover Sheet (PDF, Download Acrobat Reader
  2. Nominator’s Letter (maximum of two pages based on nomination criteria)
  3. Nominee’s Position Description
  4. Supporting Materials (necessary to acquaint the respective committees with the nature and qualities of the nominee’s accomplishments
    1. Concise and accurate description of accomplishments (based on nomination criteria)
    2. Nominee’s updated profile from Taleo or Current Resume/CV
    3. Letter of support from nominee’s supervisor and administrator.
    4. Three letters of recommendation from peers/colleagues/students familiar with the nominee’s current work. 

Please submit the completed nomination package via email to MCStaffOfTheYearAward@montgomerycollege.edu, by March 1, 2019. Nominations will not be accepted after 11:59 p.m. that day and incomplete nominations will not be considered.

The Process
  • The senior vice president/chief of staff must review and approve nomination packets within their respective division.
  • The selection committee will collaborate with the Office of Human Resources and Strategic Talent Management (HRSTM) and the Office of Business Services/Finance (OBS) to verify that nominees are in good standing.
  • Upon approval, the Office of Human Resources & Strategic Talent Management will notify the employee when the award has been processed for payment. The employee will receive the award amount of $5,000.00, less taxes, in the next available paycheck.

    Complete Nomination packets must be emailed by March 1, 2019.
    Staff Member of the Year Award nominations received by 11:59 p.m. March 1st will be retrieved and reviewed. Announcement of the winner will be at the End of Year Closing Meeting by the College President. Payment will be processed for the last paycheck of the academic year in May.

Team Effort Award

The Team Effort Award is to recognize employees that have successfully completed a project as a team.

The Team Effort Award is to recognize employees that have successfully completed a project as a team.  They effectively shared responsibilities, interacted with each other to achieve goals and collaborated with units internal and external to the College community.  The project must be beyond the scope of the unit's regular responsibilities, and each team member should be documented.  Each individual will be given a certificate signed by the President.

The Team Effort Award is managed by the Office of the President. To nominate a team for this reward, please submit the nomination form  (PDF, Download Acrobat Reader)  to Lynette Telford  within 90 days of the completion of the project.  The President's Executive Council will review nominations and recommend award recipients to the President for final approval.
