Staff Awards
Staff awards recognize and celebrate the excellence of our staff in their performance, customer service, innovation, and serving students. The nomination period for Outstanding Staff Awards and Staff of the Year Awards begin each November, with the deadline for nominations typically around March 1 of the following year.
The deadline for FY/AY 2024–2025 nominations is Monday, March 3, 2025, at 11:59 p.m.

Yearly Recognitions
The Staff of the Year Award recipient is selected from the pool of Outstanding Staff Award (OSA) nominees, recognizing an individual who consistently exemplifies exceptional performance, leadership, and service that has a broad impact on the college-wide community. The Staff of the Year awardee receives a one-time payment of $5,000.
The Staff of the Year award recipient is selected by the Montgomery College Outstanding Staff Awards Committee (MCOSA) from the pool of OSA nominations, which are based on the following criteria:
- Excellence in Performance
- Excellence in Customer Service
- Excellence in Innovation
- Excellence in Serving Students
The eligibility and timeline of the Staff of the Year Award will work in tandem with the OSA eligibility and timeline.
MCOSA Committee
MC Outstanding Staff Awards Committee Formed:
- Six (6) staff were selected by the Staff Council and the Chair of the Committee, usually the previous year’s MC Staff of the Year Awardee.
- Two (2) administrators will be appointed by the president of the College.
Members of the Committee cannot be nominated for the Outstanding Staff Award; however, members of the Committee can be nominators.
The Outstanding Staff Awards are awarded based on four (4) categories: Excellence in Performance, Excellence in Innovation, Excellence in Customer Service and Excellence in Serving Students. Outstanding Staff Awardees receive a one-time payment of $2,000.

Announcement of Awards
The recipients of the awards will be announced during the Spring Closing Meeting.
Nominations
Any employee may nominate a colleague for one of the awards with supporting letters
that clearly state the candidate’s qualifications for the award. All nominations will be considered for the Staff of the Year Award.
Eligibility
A current staff member who has been at the College for at least three (3) years is
eligible for any one of the above awards. A staff member may receive the same award
more than once, as long as at least seven (7) years have intervened. If a staff member
has received one award, he or she may receive an award in another category as long
as two (2) years have intervened.
Award
The Outstanding Staff Awardees will receive a one-time payment of $2,000.
MCOSA Committee

1. Nominator’s Letter. Two (2) pages maximum.
2. A supporting letter from the employee's administrator or supervisor that includes documentation of the employee performing above and beyond the expectations of their position. Two (2) pages maximum.
3. A PDF of the employee's Job Profile. Submitted by the supervisor (available in Workdaynew window).

- Concise description of accomplishments (may include, but is not limited to):

- Extraordinary customer service to the College or to the greater community – has made a difference in the larger community in a collaborative and sustained manner through their role at the College such as dedication to a particular project or cause that has improved the greater community.
- Exceptional performance by continually exceeding expectations of their positions, performing at an exceptional level beyond position requirements, and recognizing the staff members’ important and significant contributions to their unit/department/area and/or the College.
- Significantly improved a work process or systems, or has significantly increased the efficiency of an operation within a unit/department and/or the College, by diligently seeking to improve the quality of the work assignments. Initiative, in-depth problem-solving, improved effectiveness and efficiency result in improved processes, improved student outcomes, and/or cost savings for the College.
- Significantly demonstrate exceptional service in serving students, which influenced student success or increased student satisfaction.
- Three (3) letters of support from faculty, staff, department chair, administrator, and/or student. Two (2) pages maximum per letter.

Quarterly Recognition
Recognize and celebrate staff members for their extraordinary performance in their job or for providing customer service to others at a time or event.
Nominations
Any employee may nominate a colleague by completing the nomination for special recognition formnew window. Once submitted, the candidate's supervisor will be contacted for approval of the
award. Upon approval, nominees will receive a congratulatory certificate, and the
award payment will appear in the employee’s next paycheck.
Eligibility
- Associate and Support Staff must be a current employee who has been at the College for at least one year.
- Associate and Support Staff are eligible to receive no more than one Special Recognition Award per fiscal year.
The awardees will receive a one-time payment of $400.

Ongoing Recognition
The Team Effort Award is to recognize employees that have successfully completed a project as a team. They effectively shared responsibilities, interacted with each other to achieve goals, and collaborated with units internal and external to the College community. The project must be beyond the scope of the unit's regular responsibilities, and each team member should be documented. Each individual will be given a certificate signed by the President.
The Team Effort Award is managed by the Office of the President. To nominate a team for this reward, please submit the nomination form (PDF, ) to Dr. Stephen Cain within 90 days of the completion of the project. The President's Executive Council will review nominations and recommend award recipients to the President for final approval.
